He Could Have Easily Said

Mark 1:12-15

“The Spirit drove Jesus out into the wilderness and he remained there for forty days, and was tempted by Satan. He was with the wild beasts, and the angels looked after him.”

He could have easily said,
“Devil, can I show you that I could
Change this stone to bread, you bet?”

He could have easily said,
“Devil, you give me all this wealth—
All to my name?”

He could have easily said,
“Devil, I will jump from this temple
And we shall see how great my Father is”

He could have said all that
But Jesus, in divine wisdom,
Answered the unexpected
Did the unexpected

The way Oscar Wilde would have proposed
He could have “yielded” to the temptation
But that would have denied us salvation.
